Mysteries of the Brain

Here it is! number four in the series Mysteries of the Brain. As you can see I took some inspiration form a certain Alice in Wonderland. I figured trying to understand the complexities of the human brain was a bit like falling down a rabbit hole. I will have all four laid out together to show you soon then its off to the judges, keep your fingers crossed for me.

Number three in the series is The Emotional Brain 'Learning about the emotional brain and strategies to manage our emotions'. I am working on the last illustration in the series today and should have them all together very soon!

The Brain and Relationships

Number two in my Brain Art entry series is The Brain and Relationships. As with the Creative Brain, I have quickly scribbled my idea, refined it, then used collage, coloured pencil and felt tip to create the final piece. Only two more in the series to go!

The Creative Brain

At the moment I am busy working on the first annual Brain Art & Writing Competition. I am entering the Drawing category with a series of four illustrations all based around the workings of the human brain. Above is my very first scribbling of an idea based around The Creative Brain 'Exploring how ideas are generated in out brains and how to foster moments of insight and creative thinking'. Next is the refined final rough and finally the finished piece. This piece was created using collage, coloured pencil and felt tip. There are three more illustrations to come in this series, all based around our brains! mmmmm brains!

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and ate and drank as much as I did! I didn't get as much time to work over the Christmas break as I had hoped but I did manage to make a cute little fan club for your friend and mine Life Guard Lou! check them out! as with Lou I will create this piece using a combination of collage and dry brush. I know I promised colour before Christmas but trust me its on its way.

Peter and Lou!

Here are some more pencils I have done for Peter Worst. I also played around a bit with some pencils for a series I will do based around a character I have affectionately named Life Guard Lou. I aim to produce these illustrations as a way of refining my personal style and eventually creating a clear voice for my portfolio and website. Stay tuned, colour is just around the corner!

Fly the Nest

I am officially not a student anymore! (still haven't decided if this is a good or bad thing yet but hopes are high!). Above is a photo of my lovely parents and I at my graduation exhibition. It was a great night and I am so proud of everything my class has achieved over the past two years, I know great things are around the corner for them all.

I was lucky enough to visit three amazing Australian illustrators yesterday Christopher Nielsen, Lew Keilar and Nigel Buchanan. They gave my fellow illustration fledgelings and I some great advise and were kind enough to show us around their studio (jealous!?). I'm now very focused on refining my unique illustration style and getting my work seen by as many people as possible throughout the next year.

As for Peter Worst I have gone through a slight rethink and am now moving forward with a more graphic collage look for the book. This is a bit of a turn around from my original water colour idea but after listening to feedback yesterday I feel this new direction will result in a much stronger piece that reflects my voice as an illustrator. Wish me luck! and keep posted x
