Identical

It's so good to be back doing Illustration Friday again! I have been off the radar a bit lately designing up a storm in my new job but I am ready to focus on my illustrative endeavors again and have plenty of new ideas to keep my paintbrush busy. I thought the above illustration was a great one to show for this weeks word 'Identical' as it is my first ever attempt at painting on plywood. I created this piece by scanning in my pencils, creating colour layers, then printing each layer and making stencils using contact paper and my trusty cutter. I painted each stencil layer with acrylic. I plan to keep perfecting this technique as I hope to put on a solo exhibition next year showcasing works on plywood. Hope you like it!

email promo

This is a new email promo I have created in order to send to art directors and publishers that accept email submissions. I will also attach a portfolio to these submissions but it gives the receiver a taste of what's to come, my contact details, and a lo-res image to send to others they think might be interested in my work. Let me know what you think!

Puzzled

Some 'puzzled' little penguins I painted last year using acrylic on board. I think they are just jealous of the end penguins natural charm and style!

Vocal

I have been using this lovely long weekend to have a bit of fun and play around with my digital style (in between chocolate eating of course!), I thought this weeks illustration friday word 'vocal' was a good one to practice on. After many hours yesterday huffing and puffing in the face of photoshop I decided to try my luck in Corel Painter 11. I found the brushes a bit easier to use and I also liked the sponge and airbrushing options. Its pretty obvious I was inspired by Mary Blair for this one! My goal is to capture the freedom and playfulness of traditional mediums in a digital format. Let me know what you think. x

Swamp

Here is my little offering for this weeks Illustration Friday word Swamp. I thought these two little creatures might be found hanging out quite happily in a nice wet swamp. I call this piece 'Wanna grab a bite?'. I love using cheeky animals in my work and I have used these two on some greeting cards too. I have also started my professional facebook page recently and If you have time I would love you to check it out and let me know what you think. Thanks! rebekahfoordillustrations

suspense

This paper cut illustration was created as part of an application I put together to illustrate the cover of the lovely zine Bespoke. Unfortunately it was not chosen, but that won't stop me showing it off for this weeks illustration friday word 'suspense'. I always imagined this lady had snuck off in the night to meet her secret lover in the dark...

Twirl

Another recent acrylic on board piece I though would work for this weeks Illustration Friday word 'Twirl'. I used dry brush, scratch back and some masking techniques to paint this unlucky scene, perhaps being the early bird is not always such a good thing after all!

I wasn't sure what to post for this weeks Illustration Friday word Grounded at first but then I remembered this piece I did while studying and thought it would be a nice take on the theme. It was done using Adobe Illustrator and was one of the first pieces I did in the graphic style I use now, hope it makes you a smile.

Highlight

HAPPY NEW YEAR! It's been a few weeks since my last post due to the madness of the Christmas season but I am back in my little studio now and thought this weeks Illustration Friday word highlight was a great way to get back into the swing of things. This piece was done using some hand drawn sketches of my beautiful cat Roxie, I then scanned them into the computer and live traced them in illustrator. I used the results to burn a screen for printing and hand printed several of these images as Christmas gifts using a vibrant orange ink (and yes I am am a crazy cat lady, what can I say!)

vanity

I have been working on my digital illustration skills lately as I spend allot of time covered in acrylic! I thought this weeks Illustration Friday word 'vanity' would be a good one to practice on. I am trying to keep a hand done feel to my digital work and hope to gain confidence and a clearer style the more I do it. Let me know what you think, I would love some helpful tips from all the digital artists out there.

silent

This is a layered collage piece I did earlier in the year for Spoonful Magazine. I thought the mood fit this weeks Illustration Friday word 'silent' well. I applied card and foam core to create the layers and used my favorite colour combination of purple, green and orange. Enjoy!

EXHIBITION MADNESS!

The set up...

Thanks Mum and Dad!

The moment of truth...

What an amazing time I have had in Melbourne over the last few days! not only was my first solo exhibition more than I could have every hoped for but my friends' and family's support and encouragement has been truly inspiring. Thanks so much to everyone who made it out on opening night, and congratulations to the artists exhibiting in the other rooms. I honestly could not have planned it any better (and believe me I tried!) or have done it without all the wonderful people around me. If your in Melbourne anytime between now and the 3rd November head on down to the Brunswick Street Gallery and check it out!
